Phase 2 underway at SEPTA Frazer Shop and Yard

Phase 2 site construction began in September for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s Frazer Maintenance Facility expansion project. Currently, foundations for the drop table pit building are underway. When that building is complete, the Madison crew will then begin constructing the wheel truing bay building.

SEPTA is renovating and expanding the 30-year-old Frazer shop and yard facilities to accommodate delivery of new locomotives and multilevel trailers and cab cars, which are needed to meet an increasing number of passengers. The project has a tight construction table because the first locomotive is scheduled to arrive in 2018.

The 40-acre maintenance shop and yard is located in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, Pa. Scheduled and preventative maintenance is performed on SEPTA’s locomotives and push-pull fleet at this location. Engineers, conductors and assistant conductors also report for duty at the transportation building housed on this site.
